Updates: 2014 So Far

OK, this used to be, for the short time it existed last year, a bi-weekly (or so), post. Well, the beginning of this year has been a bit hectic, and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime too soon. I do have to find time to draft posts that will keep the site current and more manageable. However, things haven’t been as stagnant around here as you, Dear Reader, may believe.

Firstly, for the most part I got the 2013 BAM Award nominations and Honorees posted in a fairly timely fashion. The timetable definitely worked for me and will be re-implemented this year.

I was a bit slow to get all the historical lists updated, but they now are. They are easily found under BAM Awards in the menu bar.

Speaking of the menu bar, most of the recent updates that may not have reached you all have concerned the addition of new pages. Under the Themes tab you will find pages for many of my perennial topics such as 31 Days of Oscar, March to Disney, Poverty Row April, 61 Days of Halloween, Thankful for World Cinema thus far.

As for logging, that is taking a more deliberate approach as well. The BAM Award Considerations will post once and not be updated. Therefore, they will be up at the end of their respective month, or at the start of the following month. The January post can be found here.

My Radar has been updated and one title, at least, will be scratched off soon.

As for Films Viewed in 2014 that needs to be updated as it is quite behind.

Similarly, another post only being updated once monthly will be Considerations Favorite Older Film of 2014.

I’ve also been a bit lax in the Shameless Self-Promotion Department. So much so that I neglected to mention that I contributed a post to the LAMB Devours the Oscars series. I also frequently submit links to Foreign Chops and Classic Chops. Those posts are a great way to catch up and discover other blogs. Another way is that you can follow me on Twitter or like The Movie Rat on Facebook.

Next, I believe I’ll start with some My Ballot posts, similar to this one and move on from there and get caught up slowly but surely. The goal is to spend less time updating running lists and more time creating new content. That goal has not yet been achieved, but if you have patience you will see it come to fruition. As always, thank you for stopping by, and taking your time to read the site.

Updates: December 6th, 2013

This update is going to be slightly different than ones in the past. It will not only provide links to what’s been updated today but also discuss completed, ongoing, and upcoming posts.

Past and Present

Firstly, of course, the November list of the BAM Award Considerations is closed and the December list has opened up.

My films viewed list is almost up-to-date and nearly at 500 features.

The Contender for Favorite Older Films First Viewed in 2013 list gained only one title, but it’s an interesting one.

Two new titles added for Jury Award Consideration.

On My Radar a few titles added, but more crossed off.

Forthcoming

Next, considering I wrote many pieces last year on the Foreign Language Film race at the Oscar (How the Foreign Language Film Submission Process Could Change and The Problem with Limiting Foreign Film Submissions – Part one and Two and The Oscars Should Change Its Best Foreign Language Film Processes most notably) I am returning with a five-part series that examines more nuanced, often overlooked issues with the process starting next Wednesday!

Also forthcoming is a look at some past BAM Best Picture Winners and well as old winners explications, nominees/winners lists and Best of the Year lists I didn’t yet post.

That’s all I can guarantee right now. However, I do intend to draft new Pages so keep your eyes on the menu bar and The Holiday Viewing Log should return next week too. Here’s last year’s.

The next update will be on the 15th. Short break but there’s lots going on towards the end of the year so I don’t want to push it off as I did this time.

Thanks for reading all!

Updates November 15th, 2013

So not much in the way of updates this time. That’s mainly because the interval was shorter than usual and I’ve been mostly watching movies trying to enliven the BAM contenders and Thankful for World Cinema.

So the BAM Award Considerations for the month are newly-updated. Again. Check them out.

My films viewed list is updated with more titles and links. No new older favorites because I’ve been watching almost all new films.

Lastly, updated My Radar. Not much in the way of adding titles, but a few more scratched off or queued up.

The next update day will be on Monday, December 2nd.

Updates: November 4th, 2013

As tends to happen from time to time, things came up on the previously intended update day (November 1st) that made updating the lists due for additions (as well as other posts) a bit hard.

However, many exciting things are afoot at The Movie Rat. So here’s a quick rundown.

First, and these posts will be forthcoming soon, we are in the midst of a new theme: Thankful for World Cinema.

Second, The Movie Rat is currently co-hosting its first ever giveaway thanks to the fine folks at Film Movement. Details on how you can win Broken and three other films can be found here.

As you also may have noticed, new pages are up (and will continue being added) go here to learn more about The BAM Awards and the Associations this blog is a part of.

I may have been a bit generous but my Contenders for Favorite Older Film First Viewed in 2013 saw its most additions in October.

Five new titles added to My Radar.

Another change on the site is that October 2013 marked the last time I will post a Mini-Review Round-Up. The reason being that in the last theme many mini-reviews spawned their own post anyway – and the idea originally was to save myself some work. In the end it doesn’t save work but creates more. Yes, this will make it easier to fill up my schedule. However, this will also give some oft overlooked films a post all their own rather than being buried in a long running post where they need to be found.

My Year-End Dash will likely remain a running post.

Four candidates added to the Entertainer of the Year Award race.

One name added to the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Lastly for today is my contribution to the Silent Recasting Blogathon where I re-cast Harry Potter as a silent film.

Next updates should be on November 15th, as scheduled.

Updates: October 15th, 2013

Here are the latest round of updates. As opposed to some recent updates, I have gotten a new 61 Days of Halloween post. I am a few posts away from having the rest of the month squared away and adding unanticipated bonus titles (I likely won’t hit anywhere near 61).

The next update will occur on Friday, November 1st, 2013.

Mini-Review Round-Up October 2013

Updates: October 1st, 2013

So after a longer than expected lay-off here are the latest round of updated posts on the site today. These are all additions to posts that are designed to be frequently updated – or as I like to call them “running posts.” What’s different in this installment is that I added a description of what the updates entail and spaced it more. The next updates will be posted on October 15th, 2013.

Reviewed 5 films to close out the post.

Updates: September 16th, 2013

If you’ve been paying extra-close attention you may have noticed I’ve not adhered to my policy of updating or adding new content daily as of late. Essentially what has occurred is that I got ahead of the game for a period of time where I was away but didn’t get ahead after returning to the daily grind. So I took some days off to re-strategize: I will slowly and surely build the surplus starting today, which is my regularly scheduled round of updates to running lists. Below you will find links to all that has changed today. New content will arrive tomorrow.

The next update day will be Tuesday, October 1st, 2013.

Updates: September 3rd, 2013

I was, per my last update, supposed to have done this on the first of the month. Not only was that a Sunday, but it was during a holiday weekend. So a little belated here are the latest round of site updates. I will schedule accordingly and the next round of updates will occur here on: Monday, September 16th.

Updates: August 13th, 2013

As those of you who follow my Twitter or the sites Facebook once every two weeks I update all the posts that I consider to be what I call “Running Posts.” Those being lists I update throughout the year or month for various year-end considerations. This is also why I like to say I (try) to post new or updated content daily, as usually update days allow for little else. However, I thought it time to formalize this process. The next update will be on September 1st, 2013.

So every two weeks or so (the next one will be up on August 13th) I will write a brief blurb and link to all the posts being updated on the day in question.
